With the help of a Council Tree City USA Reward Grant, Town of Colonie (Albany County) Conservation Advisory Council volunteers planted two sugar maples (Acer rubrum), one Japanese tree lilac (Syringa reticulata), and two river birches (Betula nigra). NYSUFC Grants Committee member Mary Beck (far right, above) participated in the event.

The event took place on Saturday, October 23, 2021, at a new playground for children with disabilities in The Crossings of Colonie, a 130-acre public park (Colonie’s largest) that in addition to the playground features a pond, meadows, wetlands, woodlands, wildflower areas, and 6.5 acres of multiuse trails.

Colonie (pop. ~ 83,000) has been a Tree City USA for five years.

Thank you to Latham Planning and Economic Development Senior Planner Monique Wahba (far right, above) for providing the grant report and materials for this post.
