Scholarships are a benefit for being a member of the New York State Urban Forestry Council (NYSUFC).  Any member can apply for a scholarship.  Their participation will help the councils goal to increase planning, management and education in Urban Forestry.  Members actively involved with the council may receive additional consideration. Scholarships are available to help members attend an event in which they would not be able to finance through their employer or organization.   The scholarship will cover registration fees, travel costs are not covered.

Scholarships opportunities will be announced by email to members and shared in newsletter, for events being promoted by the council. Awardees will be notified within 2 to 3 weeks following the application received.  The council may cover all or part of the registration fee.  Other events can be applied for on an individual basis but could take longer to award.

For 2024 there are scholarships anticipated for:

  • Municipal Forestry Institute (MFI)
  • NYS ISA Conference and Workshops.
  • NYS Annual Re Leaf Conference.

Other scholarships or opportunities listed below may be available, pending funding availability.

Trainings/conferences the scholarship will cover:

  1. International Society of Arboriculture conferences or other state/chapter ISA Conferences.
  2. Arbor Day Foundation Partners in Community Forestry Conference.
  3. Other Tree care-related workshops/trainings.

People receiving scholarships are encouraged to share their experiences after attending the event, what they have learned, and how it benefited the council and their community; by providing an article for Taking Root.
