Cornell Cooperative Extension of Westchester County will offer a free webinar Thursday, Sep 5, 2024 at 7:00pm for consumers and the commercial industry.

The spotted lanternfly arrived in New York City in 2020 and is now established around the State. This invasive planthopper can become a real nuisance in landscapes and is a threat to vineyards. Brian Eshenaur, NYS IPM, will share images of the insect so it can be recognized in its different life stages, which range from tan egg masses to tiny crawling black nymphs to the adult with its polka-dotted outer wings and bright-orange underwings.

The webinar will explore its life cycle and favorite plants as well as the regulatory work to slow its spread. Also discussed will be spotted lanternfly traps and all other management options. DEC pesticide license recertification credits will be offered based on agency approval.
